On October 1st, the MBA Women International – Tulane Chapter hosted a fundraising event at school. Daniel Paschall took professional head shots for students to use on their LinkedIn, Facebook, blogs, etc. Some of the money was donated to an MBA1 student’s charity, Enlighten through Travel.
Lydia Onimo, a first year MBA student at Tulane University and a former high school teacher, watched her students struggle to reconcile the dreams they have for their lives with the reality they experience growing up in New Orleans. Many children face a heartbreaking epidemic of crime and poverty in New Orleans and throughout the United States. Lydia received a grant to travel abroad when I was 18. The experience changed her life and inspired her to create a better future for myself. She wants to help grant the same opportunity to local students.
The organization’s goal is to enlighten our youth and inspire them to achieve more than what they believe is possible. Lydia believes this is one way to fight this epidemic of crime and poverty. Last year, she organized the opportunity for an educational tour of Spain and France for 11 of her 9th-12th grade students. The trip cost over $40,000. Lydia and the students worked hard to acquire the funds within six months. In June of 2013, the organization will travel to China and are setting out again to raise funds necessary for the trip. MBA Women International – Tulane Chapter was happy to contribute to the cause.
